Dan Benavidez

Author of For All the Wrong Reasons—a compelling memoir of a Latino man struggling to make it in a white man’s world—Dan Benavidez is well versed in the vulnerabilities of minorities who struggle to fit into a world fraught with discrimination.

Dan’s fascinating journey has taken him coast to coast and abroad from living in the back of a gypsy wagon, to a stint in the U.S. Army. He was the first Latino in the city of Longmont to be elected to the City Council as Councilman-at-Large and was elected by his peers as the first Latino Mayor Pro Tem.

Dan presently serves as a board member for Eco -Cycle, Longmont Housing Development Corporation, is a member of the Longmont Police Department Latino Advisory Council, a volunteer for the Longmont Ending Domestic Violence Initiative, and for the Longmont Community Justice Partnership (LCJP) to advocate for restorative justice.
